The Concert Band serves as the core ensemble of the Oscar Smith High School Band program and is designed primarily for 9th and 10th grade students with prior instrumental experience. This class provides a structured environment where musicians continue to develop their technical skills, ensemble awareness, and musical expression through the study and performance of quality band literature. Students in Concert Band will refine fundamentals such as tone production, articulation, intonation, and sight-reading, while also learning to perform in a balanced and cohesive group setting. Regular at-home practice is expected, as individual preparation is essential to the success of the ensemble.
In addition to daily class rehearsals, students will participate in occasional after-school practices to prepare for concerts and special events. The Concert Band performs at several concerts throughout the school year, showcasing a wide variety of musical styles and selections chosen to both challenge and inspire students. This ensemble provides an excellent opportunity for students to expand their musicianship, gain valuable performance experience, and contribute to the proud tradition of the Oscar Smith Band program.
